Lions 27 Holt 3s 21

The Lions secured a hard-fought 27–21 victory over Holt 3s in an entertaining contest, showing plenty of attacking quality and determination to get the job done.

The Lions started strongly but allowed Holt back into the game at times, making for a competitive afternoon. However, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, with some excellent attacking play and good work across the park.

The try scorers included Tim Down, who opened the scoring after the ball came loose on the Holt line and Tom Muckley, who scored out wide following a good backs move.

Ilaija Vuli also got on the scoresheet, finishing in the far right corner, while Jimmy Craven marked his debut with a try of his own after Jake Bailey received a kick from a Holt drop-out and off-loaded to Jimmy to finish. A great way to get his Lions career underway!

Up front, the Lions dominated the scrums, while the lineouts were fairly even throughout. There was plenty of effort across the pitch, although the side never quite got out of third gear, leaving plenty more to give in the coming weeks.

A yellow card for Wally added to the afternoon’s talking points, but the Lions held on to take the win. With a few players still missing, there’s plenty of potential for this side to kick on and improve further.

A great result, four tries worth celebrating, and plenty of positives to build on!

Special mentions to Jimmy Craven and Lloyd Battisson for making their debuts for the club. Well done boys.

It’s all shaping up well for the long awaited return of Harvey Wilson.

Lions head coach Jonathan Payne said of the game: “It was great to have a full squad for the second week in a row, bring on next week.”

Up the Lions!
